"Was it really only a year ago???" "Has a year already gone by??" We feel a mixed emotion of both of these.
A year ago today was our last full day with James and the last day that the girls seen James. The girls were able to come to the ICU and the Palliative Team tried to make it a special and memorial day. One of the things they attempted to do was to make a mold of the kids hands. Unfortunately the mold did not turn out and so it's just been stored in a box. Since James wiggled his fingers three of his fingers did not work. The mold is very crumbly and easily breaks. One of Rebecca's fingers has already fallen off and each time we take it out more little pieces fall apart.
Although the mold did not turn out nice and we wish we had just done a hand print of James' hand, it is still very neat to look at it as it is very detailed, right down to every line, crack and crevice on the hand. You can also see Rob's thumb underneath James' hand as Rob tried to hold his hand in the molding stuff and keep it still. There wasn't much life left in James but he was still able to put up a fight if he didn't like something ... and he wasn't at all happy about the idea. Poor little guy!!

Hi Steph,
our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family over the next few days. It's important to celebrate James life and who he was. He sounded like a remarkable little boy.
Hugs from Liz Cooper and the rest of our family.
Thinking of you all today and hope you can smile at the beautiful memories of James. Love the hand moldings, very life like aren't they? Can imagine it gets fragile with handling but what a beautiful keepsake.
Rob and Steph and family: It has been a year already since little James has passed away into glory wtih His Heavenly Father. We think of you all today and as someone already commented we hope that you also remember all the wonderful memories among the sadness. May God continue to sustain you with His comfort and peace. Steph, it was a year ago yesterday that our fears about Amryn were confirmed and we took her to the hospital. And it was there that we found out James passed away. Life seemed very unfair those days (still does sometimes!). Our hearts were breaking because of Amryn but also for you.
We have molds of Amryn's hands, and one of the first things I did was spray them with a shellac from Michaels that coats plaster in a diamond-hard seal. You should try it. It took a few layers, but the molds are much stronger now. Just a suggestion...
Praying for you today, Rob & Steph & family. Even though you don't pay much attention to dates, this one will be very hard to forget. Thanks for sharing the picture of the mold. Hope it will be able to bring a little bit of comfort as you remember your little boy in the days to come.
I'm so glad you have this mold!
